Custom Forging

Open- and closed-die forging, built to your print

Whether you need a one-off open-die shaft or a run of closed-die parts, MTS forges carbon, alloy, and stainless steel to shape with the grain flow, soundness, and strength that only hot working delivers.

Forging that works metal, not just melts it

Forging aligns a part's grain to its shape and closes the internal voids left by casting, producing components with higher strength, better fatigue life, and more predictable behavior under load. That is why the industries that can't afford a failure — aerospace, defense, power generation — specify forgings.

MTS runs both open-die work for large or custom geometries and closed-die work for repeatable production shapes. We forge close to the finished profile, then normalise or heat treat and rough machine in-house — so the part that leaves Coatesville is sound, stress-relieved, and near-net.

Materials & specifications

Tell us the grade, the geometry, and the standard — we forge to a wide range of materials and finish the part however far down the process you need us to.

Materials we forge

  • Carbon and alloy steels for structural and drive components
  • 304L and 316L stainless for corrosion resistance
  • Duplex stainless for strength plus corrosion resistance
  • Hastelloy C276 and AL6XN for aggressive process media
  • Customer-specified grades to print and material standard

How we deliver it

  • Open-die and closed-die forging under one roof
  • In-house normalising, annealing, stress relief, quench & temper
  • Rough and pre-machining to near-net shape
  • Material traceability under our ISO 9001:2015 system
  • Forged close to contour to reduce your finishing time
