Shaped by the die, strengthened by the flow

In closed (impression) die forging, a heated billet is driven into the sculpted cavity of matched dies. As the metal fills the impression, its internal grain structure is forced to follow the contour of the finished part rather than being cut across by machining. The result is a component that is denser, tougher, and more fatigue-resistant than one produced from bar stock or castings.

MTS Forge has run impression die work since 1986, developing tooling and process sequences that hold shape and consistency part after part. From a single proof forging to a full production release, the same die produces the same component — the defining advantage of the process for programs that cannot tolerate variation.
